One purchase, two departures: assessing air and ocean separately

Some items may be needed before the rest of your purchase. To assess a partial air departure, first separate the priority products and request a quote for each shipment using its actual cargo and destination.

Compare the complete two-departure plan, alongside the price of moving selected units by air. Each part needs defined packaging, documents and responsibilities.

Start with the inventory need

Ask your team to identify priority products, quantities and the required receiving date. Distinguish a business need from a confirmed transport date. Check with the factory which units are actually ready for packing and collection.

DHL frames mode selection around cost, available time and production reliability. Use those questions as a starting point; route dates and acceptance need their own confirmation.

Create two cargo sheets before requesting quotes

Identify part A and part B while keeping their relationship to the original order. Do not allocate a proportional share of the whole purchase’s weight or dimensions to the air lot without checking its packaging.

Compare the cost of both complete plans

Request one plan for the whole purchase and another for two departures, where both are feasible. Review collection, preparation, transport, importing and delivery for each alternative. Ask which charges would be repeated when separating shipments.

Record unresolved items. A saving at one stage does not establish an overall saving; an air rate also does not establish arrival in time for your inventory need.

Keep the order and departures reconciled

Have the supplier and import professional review each portion’s quantities and documents. Keep a record showing what departed, what remains outstanding and the originating order.

If a carton contains products for both portions, agree who will open, separate, repack and measure it. Confirm that work before removing goods from the original plan.

Track each departure to its own destination

Assign a tracking reference to each shipment and record its events separately. A change to the ocean departure does not automatically change the air arrangement, or vice versa.

Establish who can authorize changes to quantity, date, route or address. Request the effect on price, documents and outstanding operations before proceeding.

What to send for an initial assessment

Share both cargo sheets, the complete order list, ready dates and reason for prioritization. Mark provisional information.

MX Pacific Express will confirm which options it can assess for your goods and the scope of each proposal. This method does not guarantee capacity, savings or timing; splitting an order does not confirm both bookings.

Sources and scope

Sources consulted on 26 October 2026. Checklists and examples are planning guidance prepared by MX Pacific Express. Other operators’ processes illustrate concepts; the conditions for your cargo are confirmed separately.

Prepare your next step

Share the product, packaging, weight, origin and destination. Identify any information still pending so your inquiry can be reviewed with the right scope.
