Ask for a dated status, its source, the outstanding task and its owner. A delivery estimate needs to account for the work still to be completed.
Arrival is one event in the process
Discharge, carrier release, clearance and collection need to be checked for the shipment. Maersk states that container release depends on local rules, payments and documents. Its process describes its service; other operators and transactions may have different conditions.
A checklist for a clearer update
Use this table to frame your questions. Activities may run in parallel and operators use different labels; this is not a universal customs sequence.
Scroll the table sideways to see all columns.
| Point to confirm | Useful question | Who to ask under the contract |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival and discharge | Has the vessel arrived, and have the goods been discharged? | Freight forwarder or carrier |
| Operational availability | Where is the cargo, and which operation remains? | Destination agent or relevant operator |
| Documents and charges | Which document or payment is outstanding, and who must provide it? | Party managing transport and billing |
| Importing | What is the confirmed clearance status, and what action is needed? | Importer and responsible customs professional |
| Collection authorization | Which releases are confirmed, and can collection be arranged? | Destination agent or contracted carrier |
| Final delivery | Are transport, the appointment and unloading arrangements confirmed? | Delivery provider and receiving party |
Send an inquiry that enables action
Include the shipment reference through the agreed private channel, the last event date and the destination. Ask for the confirmed status and when to expect another update. Avoid posting commercial documents or tracking details in public forums.
You could write: “The last update I have is [event/date]. Please confirm the current point, the outstanding requirement, who must complete it and when we will review the status again. Please also identify any delivery impact or additional charge.”
Clarify costs and deadlines before authorizing changes
If a charge appears, ask what it covers, who invoices it, what triggers it and which period it concerns. Check the agreed conditions for storage, equipment use, waiting or redelivery where applicable.
Request written confirmation of any address, transport or documentation change and its effect on cost and timing. An outstanding inquiry and an authorization to perform work are different actions.
Check the final leg to your address
Before arranging staff to receive the goods, confirm availability for collection and the vehicle appointment. Maersk separates release requirements from the delivery request in its import workflow.
Review the receiving contact, access, opening hours and unloading equipment. For multiple destinations, agree which packages go where and how receipt will be documented.
What a logistics review can establish
If you are planning a shipment, define who will report each milestone when requesting the quote. If the cargo is already moving, first contact the parties holding the contract and its documentation.
MX Pacific Express can review the context of an inquiry and confirm the scope it can offer. This site does not access another operator’s shipment file or promise a release date.
Sources and scope
Sources consulted on 26 October 2026. Checklists and examples are planning guidance prepared by MX Pacific Express. Other operators’ processes illustrate concepts; the conditions for your cargo are confirmed separately.
Prepare your next step
Share the product, packaging, weight, origin and destination. Identify any information still pending so your inquiry can be reviewed with the right scope.
Discuss my shipment planRoutes, availability and delivery conditions are confirmed in each quote.
